April Art Haul

I love buying new art supplies, it’s like a hobby of mine. In 2023 I was so busy, being a new mom, that I didn’t have much time to paint or try out any new art supplies. So instead I binge watched haul videos on YouTube and now my wishlist is a mile long.

Last month I bought the Kuretake Art Nouveau watercolors and I really really enjoyed using them. You can find the review here. So, this month I decided to get a few sketchbooks and two art books.

The first sketchbook I got is the Hahnemühle Sketch Diary in the A5 size (5.8 x 8.3 inches). It has 60 sheets of 120 gsm cream colored paper. I was intrigued as the paper has one ruled side and one blank side. I’m going to use it as a journal to plan out projects and take notes from classes. It’s seems to be perfect for that.

Next, I got the Hahnemühle Nostalgie sketchbook which has 80 pages of 190 gsm paper. I got it in the A4 size (8.3 x 11.4 inches) in the landscape format. The paper is ivory colored with a very smooth surface.

I find that I don’t use much graphite these days. So I wanted to have a sketchbook solely for graphite drawings. It used to be my favourite medium but I seem to have all but abandoned it for watercolor.

Now for the art books. The first one I got is from one of my favourite watercolor artists, Jean Haines. Her mastery over atmospheric watercolors is what I aspire to achieve in my own paintings. I have many of her books and I love painting animals so I had to get her new book, Atmospheric Animals in Watercolour. I got the kindle version due to lack of space and the book is fabulous. Her style of painting speaks to me and I can’t wait to paint some of the animals from the book.

The last book I got is from an artist who is new to me, Inga Buividavice. I discovered her on Instagram and really liked her style of painting. She also paints a lot of animals like me, so I got her just released book Wild Watercolour. It is full of animal illustrations and her instructions are very easy to follow.

That’s it for this month. See you in the next post.
